DM stands for Direct Message. On Instagram, a DM is a private message sent directly to another user rather than posted publicly as a comment or Story reply.

When someone says “DM me”, “Check your DMs”, or “I’ll DM you the details”, they mean they want to continue the conversation privately in Instagram messages. DMs can include text, photos, videos, voice notes, links, posts, Reels and even disappearing messages.
